Painting
i'm going to be getting my bucket from GB soon & need some assistance in the paint job. i recall from the old boards that Krylon Banner Red was the color, i have a couple cans of that & a can of Krylon Crystal Clear. is this gonna work...or do i need to look elsewhere? also, what's this about waxing & buffing to get the gloss?? Thanks for any info.

Re: Painting
First off, I used a base primer (tremclad grey primer, comes out almost white when it's done). Then I used almost 2 full cans of Tremclad's Fire Red and then put the clear coat on top of that (about 5 or 6 layers worth). I haven't looked into waxing or polishing my bucket since it's still got that freshly painted look to it. If I get the chance I'll take and post some pics tomorrow since I'm planning on wearing it and my rough outer cloak for Halloween.

Re: Painting
For me, it was Painter's Touch white primer and then Testors' Guards Red through an airbrush. The important thing is that your helmet be just slightly darker than your robes, so it doesn't look noticable in person, but also doesn't look lighter in pictures.

Re: Painting
Well, here's the first picture of me with my bucket and outer cloak. I still need to adjust the hem on the cloak for it to be ideal. Now if only I can find enough material for the inner robes at 50% off like I did for the material for the outer cloak...

Re: Painting
It's a metallic sheet inside the red lense. I've been tinkering with different ideas for hiding one's eyes. It's a mod that can be removed, but I like the way it looks so far...
Re: Painting
*psst*
Metallic sheets aren't screen accurate. It looks bangin', but not what you're supposed to have. Sorry.

Ang,
that's why it's a WIP... not a finalized, ready for submission costume
So far I like the way it looks and it's great for daylight since it helps cut down on the glare and such. As for screen accurate, I know it isn't so I'll have it out for submission, just had it in while I was running the test fit on the cloak.

Re: Painting
Ang, Bingo...
For non-canon daytime events I'll probably have the mirror sheet in, it makes it hard to see at night so there's no way I can leave it in. Ideally what I want is to have the one helmet with the mirror sheet in for daytime trooping and one without the mirror sheet for night-time/formal (escort) events. If I can find another DP helmet at a decent price and have some spare cash laying around I'll pick it up and modify it to match the helmet I've just finished working on (that way they'll look the same). In an ideal world I'd have one fiberglass bucket with some way of adding/removing the mirror sheet without having to worry about glue or anything else.
