Blu-Ray deleted scene guard images

Post by Darth Skellington »

We've all been waiting to see this! :trsuit:

I've uploaded some Guard images from the deleted scene here:

In summary, this particular scene is very short, and does not provide us with any earth-shattering new guard images. But it's still awesome. Vader wishes to have an audience with the Emperor, and approaches the turbolift to the Emperor's tower. The two guards raise their pikes defensively, and Moff Jerjerrod tells Vader that he cannot see the Emperor. Vader begins to force-choke Jerjerrod, but relents. The Moff states that it is the Emperor's command, and Vader basically says he will wait.

What we see, albeit in no great detail:
U-drape on robes
overall shape of shoulder fit on the robes
upper extent of the arm slit
gloves - not much to see...fabric
belt/sash - again..not much to see
some pike pommel
some pike rasp - with a seemingly hollow tip

What is new: These guards are standing with their pikes downturned. This is probably because the motion of swinging them up looked better in the scene. While this seems a little awkward at first, a guard would probably have equal attack power swinging a pike up or down to shock position. Sort of like the steering wheel in a car....you have an equally good basic control at 10 & 2 or 8 & 4. Also kind of cool...now that I think about it, they are making a pose similar to the Kotobukiya statue, albeit not as dramatic.

I can't wait till tomorrow (though I do with dread). Pay day tomorrow so it's Star Wars on Blu-Ray. I just hope I don't cry during the movies at all the things that have been changed.

I've heard why the scene was deleted (Uncle George said the "force choke" thing was getting old), but I honestly have to wonder if it wasn't because of the shorter guard. I'm guessing 1) it was a woman, and 2) the guard doesn't seem to know how to hold the force pike. There is too much disparity between the two to make it look good. I'm just saying. I do like the images of the force pike, though.

An interesting idea. I was thinking they went with the pikes down because it flowed better in the scene. You can see them raise them into attack position with more control. Whereas, if the were upright and lowered them into position they would come out of nowhere, and would probably have less control over where they stopped on screen. Try it....hold your pike up and then drop it into an exact spot. Hard to do....you end up bouncing it a little before getting it where you want it. Also, you run the risk of smacking Jerjerod in the head or hitting a mic boom.

That was my impression anyway.

I understand why they brought them up instead of bringing them down from the shoulder. What I'm referring to is how they both end up holding them. The taller guard is holding his the way most people would expect. The shorter guard is holding it like they have no idea what they're doing. I'm referring to the way they're pointing them at Vader.

Absolutely...I thought the one guard was holding really weird as well.

I know various angles and perspectives can make all the difference but is it just me or is the Guard on the left a real short a**e! ;)

And he's not that far away from Jerrod or his fellow Guard (maybe he's the economy version!).
