possible new force pike base

Post by TR6386 »

so I while putting away things from our boat I looked at the stern light and it hit me....this would make a really easy pain free force pike pole.

I looked on ebay and you can find this exact style all around stern light ranging from 24-48"+ and approx $20

The pole itself is actual metal so no messing with chrome paint, the light portion at the top already has a pretty solid pommel shape to it. The whole pole is just a hair heavier than the fishing pole I use.

Pretty much all it would need is the light painted over, grips, and a tip/emitter added to it.

have a look

It doesn't seem to taper but aside from that it looks awesome. Depending upon how you did the grips you might be able to fool the eye into thinking the top tapers, or you might not be able to tell. Did you buy one yet to get into your hands? Great find if it works.

yea the lack of taper is my only complaint about it. I don't want to steal the one that we are using for our boat, but I plan on picking one up and messing with it since the chrome paint on my pike is driving me up a wall. I figure with clever use of the grip and hiding the point meeting with the rest of it at the emitter I may be able to fool people.

I'll deff keep ya updated on this.

Rustoleum metallic finish. It looks great when you put it on there...but during the summer months it felt like the stuff was never ever 100% dry. I can't tell you how many times I had to sand it down and repaint it since making it due to the paint starting to get soft and rubbing off. Or someone touching it and leaving a finger print in the paint itself....or wrapping it in my protective cloth only to unwrap it and find a cloth impression in the paint...etc

Okay...have you tried the wonders of Future?

I know it sounds crazy but after checking out this site I had to try it. It was cheap ($6 for enough to do about a hundred pikes my size), easy to use and smelled fruity. I don't have anymore paint rubbing off when I handle mine. I let a co-worker of mine try it and he basically dipped his entire scratch-built Obi-Wan saber. He no longer has the issue with paint rubbing off and it helps protect it.

Now I will say this...YOU can tell there is a coating on the pike after you've done it but only because you know it's there. Mine still shines brilliantly in the sun and looks just like metal. What's the worse that happens? You're out $6 and you have to resand and repaint...oh wait...you're already there :)
