Plastic / Rubber Spray / Dip

So I'm working on my force pike and instead of painting the handle parts black I think I want to go the rubberized/plasticized route. A co-worker of mine has been making lightsabers for a year now for his RL costumes and he showed me a lot of this things were dipped in Plasti-Dip (the stuff you can dip tool handles into to give extra grip and electrical insulation). The surface areas I'm dealing with don't lend themselves to dipping, but they do sell a Plasti-Dip at Lowes and even Amazon has something along those lines:

If it did what it says it does I think I'd be set. I'm just wondering if anybody has used anything along these lines.

I used that to paint the black sections on a replica vader saber that I built. That stuff works great, its been handled by multiple people, dropped, etc and I don't see a mark on it. It really does leave a rubbery feel to it.

Only downside is it will leave a semi flat finish instead of a bright glossy one. But if you're not after that, then by all means go for it

When you used it had you happened to have primed the material first? I'm going to be priming the pike for painting and I assume the primer shouldn't matter to the spray plastic. Just wondering.

I did not prime it, I was spraying a section of pvc pipe. All I did was clean it off and go for it. I wouldn't think primer would have any kind of adverse effect.
