Shaft Question

Hello,

I have a question regarding shaft diameter. I saw a lot of different projects of force pikes and the thing, that got my attention was quite huge variety of shaft diameters (from 16mm to 3-4 cm). Does the shaft diameter is important during registration and - most importantly - are the thiner (16mm) pikes accepted?

All the pikes I've seen are tapered. So the bottom is much wider than the top. Like a billiards cue.
