Force PIke

Post by SL9410 »

I saw a thread in here last night refernecing the construction of a force pike... Now I can not relocate it for the life of me... Is there anyone that can point me to a single location where the how toos would be listed in one area.

You might be thinking of my pike tutorial, which can be found here:

There are two pike subforums (Prequel and ROTJ). You can find them on the forum main page directly below their respective costume forum links (ROTJ Guard, AOTC Guard, ROTS guard). They can be tricky to spot if you don't know where they are.

I appreciate your help and reply... I did wind up finding the thread after work. I am in the process right now to obtain more parts and personal touches to the mix. I will be documenting and photographing the progress and post them here for others to see and possibly use for their own. Thank you again for your help.

Good Morning;

Project status update, I aquired all my parts and then some. Wanted to test my preferences during several trial fits. I have narrowed down the selections had have nearly completed construction. I am installing the final hand grip padding and ribbed finger tecxure to the upper and final handel. I have gone with a lot of sculpted chrome parts to add a personnal touch. I anticipate photos being ready by this weekend and will post them soon. :forcepike:

Hi It's Tony. Just wondering if anyone has gone the route of using a billiard/pool cue for a force pike. The Big 5 sporting goods store here in Yakima WA has a sale on Sportcraft brand cues that are graphite $19 sale price, regularly $49 through next Monday. While looking at them I also saw some by the Mizera brand that are a hardwood core for $14.99 Most of the cues are a 57" length there are some that are 58 inch length and weigh in around 19 or 20 ounces. I'm thinking of getting one of the wood core ones since I would need to sand off the walnut wood stain they applied to the cue and wood is probably easier to work with compared with graphite. Also all the cues sold are two piece cues meaning about in the middle there is a screw so that one can unscrew the sections. That would make for easier transporting to and from trooping events. I just think that $14 + tax for a cue is a good start since pool cues are already tapered. Anyone have any other ideas on this?

I went the pool cue route. You can find my posting here. I love the idea of a 2-piece pike for transport but the sizing is where you will run into problems. I used a 1-piece 48" one from Walmart. Was less than $10. It was already the perfect size AND cheap.

Now true, transporting a pike that runs about 52" after the tip and bottom I used is kind of a pain but I created a PVC carrying case for it and I could fly across country and be sure it'll arrive in 1 piece :)

I purchased my force pike, billiard cue today. Other than sanding down the diamond pattern near the wide end what else did everyone else sand down. I also bought fine grit sandpaper to use as I figure it will leave less scratch marks and I'm just needing to remove the lacquer on the wood of the cue. Any other pointers would be good. I'm on my way to getting the costume and weapon started.

On the pool cue if it has a diamond pattern in the lower half of the cue does that need to be sanded out or will that get covered by the primer, repaint and the wraps that I apply after the silver paint is dry?

The diamond pattern won't be filed in with primer/paint so if you want it gone do it now. I sanded the whole poll down but you can still see a slight diamond pattern in about a 1 inch area. I'm not concerned with it as it offers some texture and you hve to really look.

Aside from that, I sanded the whole poll to remove all the laquer. Good luck with the paint. I bought a can of chrome silver from Fastenel in town. I've used it on some scraps but never on something which gets a lot of wear. As you'll see here in various postings you want to clearcoat the silver but most clearcoats ruin metallic finishes. I'd suggest going the Future route. Best of luck and keep us updated!

Hi, it's Tony. I finally had some time to sand down the billiard cue. Also got it the white primer on it. After letting that dry I was able to spray most of the cue with the metallic silver. It's been raining lots lately here in Yakima WA. Yesterday the 18th was okay. It was lightly raining early on so I had to quickly grab the pike and sprayed several light coats of the metallic silver. I'll get the spot of white primer tomorrow, later today Saturday if the weather is good. Hope the picture shows up okay. I decided to leave the spot for now so I had an end to hold while rotating the cue as I spraypainted it. Glad that the paint dries within 15 minutes.
After the spraying and rotating the cue as I spray the paint then it will be onto the clear coat, wraps, and the rasp and activator button assembly. Anyone have the tutorial or instructions on that part. Also is the rasp at the top tip spiral shaped or triangular/barbed shape? I have seen both. I have seen the spiral shape in the Visual Dictionary and on the Decipher ccg card for the force pike weapon. Anyway I'm slowly getting things done.
