Post by nevafear »

So after lurking through these forums and looking at everyone's great progress I thought it was time to start my own WIP. and when better to start then the day we all look forward to when the little brown box arrives an your doorstep with my bucket from Q. couldn't wait to take it all out and give it a few test fits.

For those who have purchased the ABS plastic kit, what was your preferred tool to cut and trim? I'm thinking putting a plastic cutting blade on my dremmel but I don't want to risk warping or melting the bucket??

A new blade on an exacto knife or blade cutter can cut it. You may need to do several shallow strips when trimming but it can be done. slow and steady.

well she is all cut out and glued together. i utilized the mould tab on the back piece of the helmet to make a ledge for the front to sit on, and using some spare off-cuts i made essentially a finger join on the front half which gave me a nice tight fit. no need for magnates so i just used tape to hold them firm together.

accidentally cut a little too much from the eye slit, but ill fix that up later with some greenstuff.

So here is a question I am putting to the group. in regards to the material for the inner robe/cloak lining does it have to be velvet/velveteen/gaberdine or is a cotton/polyester blend usable?

this is the material in question.

Good news though I think I found the velveteen for the outer cloak.

And this is the two of them side by side.

All feedback is appreciated

That is the same fabric I use for the Rots robes. They are perfectly fine. To help with the confusion that can be caused . The ROTJ robes used Velvet underrobes where ROTS used Gaberdine/bottom weight fabric. Depending on your location one may be more comfortable in wearing. I live in Texas and have wore Velvet / Velvet combo and it can be hotter than the Velvet/Gaberdine combo.
