How much did you pay for your helm painting?

Post by kaa1304 »

hey guys

i'm having a lot of trouble finding someone who'll paint my lid. Now, I have found one - a very talented painter indeed (ie not a body shop or something) and he's given me a quote that while I can afford it... it made my eyes water a little.

i was wondering, those of you who've paid to get this done - whats a ball park figure for your cost? I'd like to know if I'm seeing numbers way too high, about right or possibly even low.

thanks!

I painted my own in my garage with spray cans. It's not 100% what I'd love (I'd love an auto finish for the shine and strength) but I'd lasted into my 3rd year of trooping and looks great. I keep telling myself I'm going to sand it again and have it professionally finished but I've yet to NEED to do that.

Like Jester I painted my original bucket using spray paint (red and clearcoat). I have talked to several other people who have gotten the professional automotive paint jobs and pricing has run anywhere from $80 - $250.... it all depends on who you can talk to and what sort of deal they may be willing to cut you.

I had a shop do my FP helm. Including the finishing work on the fiberglass ran me 250. But by the same token Macco quoted 650! So its defiantly worth it to shop around a bit.

Maaco wanted $650? They're the ones that advertise stuff like this:

You can get a whole car for $499...yet a helmet would be $650. That's funny :)
