Helmet question

Post by TheMightyZan »

Ok, I have been reading the different threads about the different helmets, so I think I know the answer to this, but I want to check.

I have a really large, round head. Not like bobble head or anything, but I definitely have a bigger head then normal. I know that the DP helmets are really small, so those have been ruled out for me, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the best helmet (for size at least) would be to make sure it's not too small. I know there are rules about posting links to things, so even a pm would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance! :trsuit:

I would suggest for those with a larger head size that they check out the SA fiberglass helmets... though not cheap, they are the largest helmets out there for this costume.... short of doing a pepakura helmet that has been modified for larger than 100% dimensions.

I got the dimensions for a couple of the SA helmets. There is only about a 5 cm gap for me, but hey, at least that works! I'd be afraid to try and go any smaller. They appear to run around 65cm at the smallest part of the helmet, and 75 at the biggest.

So that you are fully informed to help you make the right decision of which helmet to go with, I wanted to share some info about my SA fiberglass helmet. Yes, it is very roomy, but in my opinion they are very thin in certain areas. I'm talking passing light thin. I was afraid of it cracking or breaking, so I completely enforced the entire inside of the helmet with resin and bondo. This resulted in basically eliminating the extra "room". I guess I could have coated the entire outside of the helmet, but I didn't want to ruin the shape or have to spend even more time than I already had to smooth the outside after spot puttying all the cracks and holes.

Can any one talk about the size of the new Rubies Royal Guard Helmet that has one? Might be another option.

The rubies helmets are smaller than the SA fibreglass and larger than the Don Post so middle of the road.

Sorry to hear you had such a thin helmet, most of the others I have heard of have been solid.

My SA fiberglass helmet was solid but it did seem to have a bit of light transmission. I wasn't concerned about the strength of it though. I also have a large bobble head (I'm 6'4") and the fiberglass helmet has more than enough space for me. Mine holds 3 fans on it and I never feel like the helmet it tight on my head.
