Question about Painting

Post by Rosien_HoH »

I'm wondering about paint for armor and helmets. Has anyone looked into how much it would cost and how easy it would be to get your things painted in automotive paint? Is it something you can do at home or do you need to take it somewhere? If you have to take it, what kind of place are we talking about?

Basically, please assume I know nothing and give me any info you can. Anything is appreciated.

I painted my helmet with some tremclad paint, primer and clear coat.... as for professional painters, expect to pay a fair bit of money, assuming the shop is even willing to paint it in the first place...

A Garrison mate of mine paid $150 for his Vader helmet to be primed, painted, and clear coated at a body shop. There is a body shop near me which advertises a motorcycle helmet painting for $60...and I figure a guard helmet is about twice the size..maybe a bit more. Never hurts to ask a shop to be honest. Personally...I did mine with spray cans and lots of wetsanding between coats.
