I've been searching high and low for the last week and a bit for what the original tip/rasp was and I think I may have stumbled onto the information. Do a simple google search for Worm Gear Hob Picture.

You will find that the rasp + tip are one piece, they are infact what I mentioned above, cut down and it seems mounted onto a metal shaft (the pike shaft). I'm in Australia, and finding one is like trying to find hen's teeth. I'm sure you will have way more luck than I, especially if you're located anywhere other than Australia.

Thanks for the info Darkfather. Some other guys had actually run across this back in 2011 and contacted the maker. They wanted $200 US each at that time. I think I may try to craft something that looks like it myself.

That rasp is fantastic! I had no idea where to find one locally...now...if only my garage door opener breaks I'll have a reason to take it apart...

I agree that that is a major find. Thanks for providing the information. I allready tried to get it anywhere but it seems impossible to get one.

I will try to ask a friend if he can print it with his 3D printer.

Alibaba is a great site of things like this: http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/H ... 21494.html and I'd contact them if I was an engineering and could explain what I wanted. But I'm not an engineer so saying, "I want a gold toothed thingy for a costume, doesn't have to actually cut worm gears and should be the same size as a ski pole or pool cue" wouldn't work too well.

I Googled "garage door worm screw" and got a few hits including this http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/1714049882 ... =82&chn=ps This looks to be the same one I used.

That doesn't really have the "teeth" in it though. Maybe running a dremel down in rows could fix that.

That is what I did to mine, it looked like that before I started. If anyone is interested I can show how I did mine.
