Darth Dog's ROTJ Royal Guard WIP

Post by Darth Dog »

Have decided to start a WIP for the Guard costume I am building for my wife. I completed my ESB Vader last December and made my son a Jawa. The wife decided she didn't want to just be a handler so here we are. All we have so far is a striped aluminum ski pole that will become her pike, and a pair of Pierre Dumas red suede boots. I have been in contact with a helmet maker in PA and am going to get on his list for a kit version which I will paint after we have the robe. Am looking forward to this build.

We are looking forward to adding a new member to our ranks! Quick fact: did you know that a large percentage of Royal Guards in this detachment are women?

Please let us know if we can help you in any way. We will be happy to help.

Thanks for the welcome. My wife is a woman too!! She should really fit in. :D

San Diego, very cool. I love your city. I scuba dive also, spent some time at/in La Jolla Cove.

Question, was looking at pics of Guard costumes and noted the outer robe seemed to be piled in the floor. Checked the CRL and did not find any info on hem lengths. How do you guys do your robe, inner and outer, hems?

You don't want it on the floor - accident waiting to happen!

I have heard an inch for the outer, 2 for the inner. We'll see if someone in the know can confirm...

The hem length should be no more than 1" off the ground for the outer cloak and no more than 3" off the ground for the inner robe.

If it's dragging on the ground it's a huge tripping hazard and you are likely to get hurt

Thanks much. I think I went with 3/4 inch on my Vader cape. I have to be mindful of it when walking. I didn't think the pictures were too practical.

Just wanted to also point out that the length for the cloak is in the CRL under the Outer Robe listing on the main 501st website:

Thanks Stripes. I should have checked the 501st site also. I was reading the CRL Standards as posted above in this (ROTJ) section. Has anyone used the "Or Best Offer" option on FPs Ebay page? What prices has he accepted. I did this with my Vader leather suit and saved about $25. Just looking for his lowest price.

Not much going on as I have been busy at work the past few days. Should be able to get to Lowes by the end of the week to search for parts for the Force Pike. Have been stretching the boots a bit as they are too narrow for my wife. Also picked up some tubing from work for the portable AC unit I have ordered to ventilate the helmet.
