Newbie Looking For Some Help
Newbie Looking For Some Help
I am new to the world of costuming, but not to the world of Star Wars. I have a huge obsession with the Royal Guard and Shadow Guard. I am wanting to make a worthy Shadow Guard costume that I will one day be able to join the 501st with. As I said however, I am new to it all.
I was wondering what pieces of the costume I should go for first. I've heard the helmet and the cloth pieces, but again...I'm super new to it all.
Any and all information regarding advice, tips, or links to where I can begin putting things together would be amazing. Thank you for both your time and help.

Welcome aboard! Your question is not unique and you can read multiple responses on the topic in other threads. Basically you need all the stuff so it doesn't really matter the order. But typically I say robes and helmet are number one. Then you can pain the helmet to match the robes and you're golden.
Of course you need to know which version Guard you want to be before you get too involved as the robes/gloves/boots/pike are all different.

Re: Newbie Looking For Some Help
For the shadow guard this doesn't really apply since the robes are optional, and not mandatory for the costume... the real trick with this one is making sure you choose either shiny or matte finish and use the same for all of the hard pieces.
Re: Newbie Looking For Some Help
I thank you both for the replies. I've began looking at some of the other threads and have already started compiling a checklist of the items. I plan on doing the Shadow Guard with a matte finish for the armor pieces and the helmet. I've read to stay away from a few companies, star fortress or whatever they are called, being the biggest one.
As I said, I am new to this and have little to no experience in making or crafting my own things. The belt, boots, gloves, and even the "flight suit" I can do. But I think the other pieces will of course be a bit difficult for me, just for being new.

You will also want to check out the CRL as this is what we use to evaluate membership submissions...

Thanks, I was looking at it last night and plan on making mine look as close to it as possible.stripes wrote:You will also want to check out the CRL as this is what we use to evaluate membership submissions...

Re: Newbie Looking For Some Help
Well, I have found boots, gloves, a belt, and a helmet that match the items on the CRL. Helmet is FP..as it seems to be a popular one and I've heard some good things. Still need to find a pocketless flight suit and the armor. :/

Re: Newbie Looking For Some Help
The flightsuit may have to be a normal one that is modified... the armor, as I said in my PM with you, is generally made by each individual as they do this costume as there isn't a set kit.... some elements can be modified from other kits (TK chest, Jango shins, etc...)... just have to dig and be creative

Re: Newbie Looking For Some Help
Indeed, I've already been looking around at different armor pieces that I can put together. It's coming together all rather quickly. I'm pretty excited about it.stripes wrote:The flightsuit may have to be a normal one that is modified... the armor, as I said in my PM with you, is generally made by each individual as they do this costume as there isn't a set kit.... some elements can be modified from other kits (TK chest, Jango shins, etc...)... just have to dig and be creative
