She had to use a bad sewing machine to make the whole costume out of velvet (which has to be cleaned out of the machine after going a foot). I was also across the country sending email references and not available for fittings. Now that I've turned her into a real Star Wars fan instead of the long-suffering gf/wife she was, she may not hate it as much.
Not the same as 3 hours of makeup (every time?!) but still an angry several weeks.

Yeah, it was.... 3 hours in and at least 1.5 hours to get out... at least until we got her new prosthetic...nolekhan wrote:Not the same as 3 hours of makeup (every time?!) but still an angry several weeks.

Re: Outer Robe Lining and other questions
I had enough of the plush triple velvet I used that I made both the cape lining and the inner robe from it. They stick, but not too badly. That was always intended as a temporary inner robe, though. My new one will be made from burgundy suedecloth -- slides against the velvet much better.

Suedecloth would be akin to a suede microfiber.... this would be close to a fleece like texture and would not be acceptable for 501st approvalPeregrinus wrote:I had enough of the plush triple velvet I used that I made both the cape lining and the inner robe from it. Microsuede and suedecloth are very different. This looks and feels almost exactly like suede, only breathes and moves like fabric. It's velvety, without having the problems of most velvets. I'll send you a swatch, along with the theater curtain material I was trying to connect with you at Celebration to hand off (or at least let you take a look at and feel).

Re: Outer Robe Lining and other questions
My outer robe is red velvet lined with burgundy velvet. It is heavy and pretty hot, but it looks awesome. I feel that you need the weight for the right look and movement. I guess you can use another fabric for the lining but still needs something that gives it the right feel. After a long troop I definitely feel it in my shoulders though.
