Padding under the armour
Padding under the armour
Hi
So I'm considering the use of padding / armour, under my inner robe to increase the bulk / shoulder width. I'm not particularly small - 6 foot, had to modify my TK legs and arms for muscle etc etc and I don't want to end up looking like a box but I do like the idea of a wider, more imposing, costume.
I was looking at hockey chest / armour and wondered if anyone had any other experiences?
thanks

Re: Padding under the armour
Some people use shoulder pads under their outer robes (typically sewn in between the lining) to bulk up.

Re: Padding under the armour
It all depends on how big you are without the pads. I have small foam pads just to give the shoulders a decent shape on the cloak, but they aren't much more than that... the rest is because I am just a big guy (something about a 54" chest)...
Re: Padding under the armour
I have seen hockey pads but if the pads continue on to the chest, make sure the lines aren't visible. Like stripes, I use some plastic shoulder pads to increase my robe profile but they don't add bulk.

I know of someone who uses a NFL style shoulder guard, that way he doesn't get any odd lines on the robes that affect the natural 'flowing' look.
Not sure how comfortable that is however

Re: Padding under the armour
The biggest thing to remember is this is one of the hottest (heat wise at least) costumes in the legion. Adding things like hockey or football pads is going to increase the heat under thee costume. If you can get away with minimal or no padding, you'll be much happier when trooping as you won't be nearly as warm. Now if you live in Siberia or Antarctica.... That's a different story altogether.

Re: Padding under the armour
Another thought I had, wondered if anyone had tried - stormtrooper or scout shoulder bells? I have both, think the scout one are more form fitting and rounded, might work.
Heat, yeah, I appreciate the comments - I've heard this is a hot, airless, costume!

Might try taking some photos, see how it looks. My TK is a ROTJ and I think they may be a little too pinched to look great, whereas the biker scout are very round and arm-fitted.Geohazard wrote:I'm currently pursuing stormie bells from the RPF.kaa1304 wrote:Another thought I had, wondered if anyone had tried - stormtrooper or scout shoulder bells? Now now...I personally troop while having the bottom of my robe on fire to cool things off. I tried holding samples of lava in my hands and that just wasn't working...
