Mora's RotJ Royal Guard WIP

Post by MoraXNevers »

Hello everyone. This is (obviously) a thread detailing my costume in progress as it is. I bought my helmet on eBay, there was no information on what style it was (Rubies, Don Post, etc) but it fits me rather well. After some advice from a friend I next bought the fabrics to match the paint to. After finding a matching paint everything was going so well til I was going to give my helmet a second coat of paint when a slight gust of wind came and knocked it over and busted it. Lucky for me, I had a friend near by who specialises in this sort of thing and fixed and repainted it. Anyway here is a pic of me doing a colour test of my helmet and robes, note that the outer robe is NOT cut lol.

I have a pattern for the under robes as well as the material, I'm just waiting for a chance to use my friends' sewing machine. Same deal with the gloves.
As for a force pike, that same friend (a very useful person up to this point I might add) had two ski poles and gave me one for free, it needs some work but not too much. The only three problems I have so far is:
1: A pattern for the outer robe (that incorporates the drape)
2: Finding a dark red, almost black looking lense for my helmet to match the movies
3: Boots.

And that is the progress on my costume so far, I'll post more pics as the project progresses.

I love my ski pole pike. Super light...no need to worry about scuffing the finish since it was designed to go down a mountian...and it's just the right size.

As for the visor...I used a smoked motorcycle helmet visor that snapped into place. Cost $7 US and then I actually taped a piece of very thin transparent red plastic from a hobby store. If you look closely you can tell but honestly I'm thinking about removing the red so it's just dark so I can see things in a fairly normal color scheme yet again. I find it really difficult to not be able to tell yellow, pink, and white apart.
