Rubie's Helmet Differences
So, I'm looking into ordering a helmet in a short while...when looking up the Rubie's on Amazon, can anyone tell me which one is the right one to get? (hopefully links to this are OK since Rubie's has the license for these...let me know if I should remove them)

I'm thinking maybe the first link is the newer helmet, which I've heard is pretty decent after some modification. But I wanted to make sure I was buying the right one.

The second helmet is just a photo crop of a promotional picture of the ROTS guard

Re: Rubie's Helmet Differences
I'm interested in the new Rubies helmet as well, mostly because of the economy of it.
Lucious, does the rubies helmet just need modification to the visor to meet 501st standards?
Has anyone bought/held one of these? Are they sturdy? I know that rubies is mostly know for producing substandard costumes, I'm wondering if its one of those you get what you pay for type deals.

Re: Rubie's Helmet Differences
If the new rubies is what is actually pictured in the first link to Amazon (not the promo pic of the ROTS Royal Guard as pointed out by Lucious) then it looks like it won't need any modifications to the visor. The older Don Post/Rubies had a smaller visor opening with a lip and the visor didn't hide your eyes.
I would also be interested to know if anyone has actually purchased one and what they thought of the helmet. Specifically the size and color.

Re: Rubie's Helmet Differences
I've heard the visor has to be modified, but I am a total noob and have no experience in the matter to rely on.
In this post: http://www.forcepike.net/forum/viewtopi ... bies#p7741 Peregrinus seems to have the new Rubie's helmet.
If no one says it's absolutely horrible and to run the other way, I'm probably going to order from that first link this week and I can post all sorts of pics of it when it's in.

sounds good, just a heads up, i found it 4$ cheaper

**EDIT** nevermind, I guess it changed to the same price.
Re: Rubie's Helmet Differences
Thanks for the link to Peregrinus' thread. Somehow I missed it. Anyways, from the image of the new Rubies from the box, I don't see why the visor needs any modifications. It looks exactly as what was shown on the amazon link. But to be clear, your own GML will have the final say in approving your costume, so it is usally best to just ask them directly, so you know what they actually think.Fettophile wrote:I've heard the visor has to be modified, but I am a total noob and have no experience in the matter to rely on.

Re: Rubie's Helmet Differences
The reason for the visor needing to be changed out is it is not a dark enough visor so as to obscure the wearer's features. This is a clear need to meet the CRL standards.bdgr wrote:Thanks for the link to Peregrinus' thread. Somehow I missed it. I'm excited to hear your full review about it when you get settled in.

Re: Rubie's Helmet Differences
I'm betting you could take a flexible motorcycle helmet, cut out the visor and put it behind the current visor. It'll be dark enough but still look red.
