styrene sheets for armor parts

Hey I stopped in at the hobby store near Yakima, The Clover Leaf in Union Gap, WA. Anyway I saw that they have styrene sheets. They come in .05mm and 1.0 mm thickness. The sheets do have squares on one side to help guide cutting but the other side is smooth. The styrene is more used for model railroad dioramas and landscape layouts but can be used for other projects. I'm wondering if this would be okay to use for the gauntlets of a FU Red Royal Guard in place of pvc pipe that has been cut and modified. Would it also be thick enough to do the shin armor on the boots? I don't think it's thick enough for the ab plate. The brand I saw was different packaging from this website but is same material. I'd say try it for that cost. I don't know if styrene will hold it's shape or flex when heated to be honest but with it being so cheap the worst you're out is a few bucks and a few hours. There are worse things in life.

I've seen the R2 builders use multiple sheets of styrene to make the right thickness. If you can glue the two sheets in the desired shape and hold them in a vice or something over night it may help keep the form.

I just checked Lowe's hardware yesterday, Monday. They do carry styrene sheets BUT it is a big sheet that is more like the styrofoam sheets and packing peanuts rather than ABS plastic which is What I understand is needed for the back armor plate on the Force Unleashed red guard. Back to looking for someone or place that carries styrene in a slightly more rigid form.
