Bucket paint.

Post by Darth Agnon »

Decided I'm going to need to repaint my bucket. It's a don post that has been repainted before, but looking over crl's I'm thinking mine is still too dark. Anybody have any suggestions on which red I should look for? I know I'll need to sand it down and primer first. So any suggestions on primer would be welcome also, but I'm mainly just needing to know what red and if there's a certain gloss that works better than another. Thanks guys.

Always better it is to paint to the fabric of the robes then fabric to the paint of the helmet ;)

Well, the robes I got with it seem to be a little bit darker than most also. More of a rose red than a bright red. I guess the current paint would go well enough with that color but reading the crl's I thought they had to be brighter.

No actually the original red paint of the don post is not that far from the triple velvet texture. When i went to a "red" on the paint it ended up looking pink in the pictures. We all know how i look pink after all.

Well you've convinced me not to repaint. But I do need to add some gloss to it. Any suggestions there? Also there's a hair line crack right in the corner of one eye. What would you suggest for that? Bondo, super glue, an epoxy?

The original Don Post is more of a maroon color. I took my DP to a professional automotive paint shop and matched it with my robes (ROTJ) The color that we used was a "Honda Red" and turned out most beautiful! I'm not sure what the color match number is but could be found by an automotive painter. Hope this helps. :tr:

Did you have the auto shop actually paint it for you? That would be pretty cool. Never thought of that. Wonder what that would cost.

Yea, I handed over the helmet and they did all the work. Incredible job!!! Cost me $50.00 (years ago) due to they knew that the 501st did some charity work. The place I went to paints classic cars and custom motorcycles.

You should be able to find someone in your area. Take your helmet in there and talk to them about it. Automotive paint shops are all over the place.

Wow - only $50 to paint it. I might have to ask around here. With 1/2 the year being winter, it's tough to find good painting days.

I was going to bring mine to an auto shop and have it painted.
