cooldevo's ROTJ WIP
Re: cooldevo's ROTJ WIP
Gone quiet for a bit, but have an update.
Finally got the visor done and mounted. Took a couple of tries to bake and form the plastic without marring it. I was having trouble posting pictures last night to Photobucket, but I'll try it again tonight and then update this thread.
I'll be picking up the soft parts from the seamstress Friday night, and will be putting in submission photos Saturday to the Garrison.
Just need to get finish up my cooling system and I should be good to go.

Great news.
Re: cooldevo's ROTJ WIP
And a picture of the visor/helmet. A few smudges I need to clean off the helmet...

wow....that helmet has an amazing paint job. Very cool. I'm getting impatient with my helmet. It has been assembled and ready for paint since January but my guy who is suppose to professionally paint it has been dragging his feet

You're looking great!
Where'd you get the visor? I have a black tint right now, but have been toying with red, and really like yours.

Re: cooldevo's ROTJ WIP
The visor was a piece of plain 0.06" acrylic. The tint was a piece of red mirror tint (red on one side, mirror on the other) that came with the helmet kit that I got from @gmrhodes13 (from this forum). Took me about 3 tries to get the acrylic to shape without marring or setting (.06 cools very quickly once it comes out of the oven).Library Guard wrote:You're looking great!

What I found worked nicely, was to bake it at 275F for about 7-8 minutes on a cookie sheet with tin foil (shiny side pointing up to the acrylic). While it was baking I filled up the sink with cool water. Then I took the acrylic out of the oven, I put it on a piece of felt that I folded over it and then used that to place into the helmet and shape it directly. After it started to set (20-30 seconds) I took it out of the helmet and dunked it in the cool water.

Submission photos were sent in to the GML today. Here's hoping *fingers crossed*
