Newbie to Royal Guard build
Newbie to Royal Guard build
I'm beginning the stages in building the ROTS costume. I've been going over all references people have suggested before. Here's a start of what I've purchased.
Helmet looks like this (Supreme Helmet):

Gloves:
http://www.leathermystics.com/gauntlets/gauntlets.html
Bought the red ones and I am looking into Oxblood Fiebings Leather dye and leather sealant to get the shade needed for ROTS.
Boots:
http://www.amazon.com/Funtasma-Pleaser- ... B001AH60TC
I'll try to get pictures up for the robes, but I will do the 4 slits (all equal length), Outer robes, I bought Red Velvet and will sew no more than 1" off the ground. The inner robes and inner lining of the outer robes I have purchased "wine" Suede which matches the colors I have seen in all reference pages.
For an extra accessory I purchased a pike:
http://www.officialstarwarscostumes.com ... aQodT70PDA
On a side note I have purchased hand air conditioners to place inside the helmet to give air circulation:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/121179660153
I will attach tubing from Home Depot up inside the helmet and attach with velcro.
I do have a question with on top of the outer robes with seaming. Does the seams just go around the shoulder area or can I have a seam in between the neck to shoulders?
Another question I have is the sash. Can it be connected from behind by velcro?
I hope this helps for getting me started. Any feedback is helpful. Thank you!

Helmet, Gloves and boots look ok for me.
The Pike is optional so its ok too.
And the Sash can be closed with velcro in the back.
So have fun with your build.

Thank you for your feedback. Also, I began sewing the inner robe last night and was wondering.... can I have a zipper on the back toward the top? It should all be covered up by the outer robe. It would make it easier to get into.

As long as it is not visible you can do a zipper on the back. But not completly through the whole back.
Re: Newbie to Royal Guard build
Yeah it would be a smaller zipper toward the top. Also, it's alright that my inner robe and inner outer robe is "wine" suede? It's hard getting velvet for everything.

Sorry but it must be out of velvet/velveteen.
Re: Newbie to Royal Guard build
So, burg. or wine velvet then? This is going to be tough being the major fabric stores here don't carry that. Glad I didn't start building the outer robe, but just finished the inner robe and sash yesterday.

Actually The inner robes of the RotS guard are made of Gabardine. You can use either burgundy or wine. You just need to make sure that the sash is also of the same bold so that it matches.

Re: Newbie to Royal Guard build
We ended up ordering 10 yards of burgundy velvet 45' from Fabric Bravo. It should be here by the 1st of Sept. Got my gloves yesterday...waiting on oxblood dye to make them darker. Helmet should be here tomorrow. I hope to sew like a mad woman, because I found out I have less than 2 weeks to try to get in before Alpine garrison has Comic Con end of next month.
I will remake the robe and sash and post pictures of them and then begin the outer robe.

The helmet came today:

The Gloves came on Weds. I'm waiting on the Oxblood dye to make them darker:

Although I now know the suede doesn't work... here's what I did do and how it looks:

The Burgundy velvet should be here next week. Then I'll sew robes and sash and will need feedback to prepare my photos for entrance.
