Are these boots approvable? Help appreciated.

As seen in the video game "The Force Unleashed". Now an approved costume!

Are these boots approvable? Help appreciated.

Post by RoyalDuchess »

Hello there. :shadow:

One Royal Guard, a hopeful Shadow Guard to-be, is in the process of getting her shadowy kit together.
Helmet: check. Overall: check but needs tailoring still. Armor parts to be assembled by husband, and now to the most crucial part before the shin guards can be worked out: the choice of boots.

Dressage riding boots of black leather, that was my goal. But I soon discovered that my calves are wide and legs not long enough either, for actual riding boots...I already had to send one WIDE-measured pair back. With a calf width of 40-41cm, I could barely squeeze myself into that pair, let alone tuck in anything! Walking was quite painful, the bootleg was sawing into my popliteal area. A big no no for trooping.

How have you others been coping with Shadow Guard boot issues? A budget of 400-500e for the boots would provide choices of extrawide leather riding boots, but about 100e is my maximum boot budget, new or used...

Then I stumbled upon these: black leather, highly comfortable, and what's left visible from under the shins bears strong resemblance to riding boots. No visible decorative elements, no zippers or straps, (the metal side thingies can easily be removed). And the overall legs can easily be tucked in, too. I am one of those who like to troop for hours and hours, so comfortability is a big issue. The bootleg is not particularly sturdy-looking: how problematic would that be for approval? I don't know if these bootlegs could be "hardened" in some way, with extra lining or such...?

What say you, would there be any potential in these to pass approval? Any help appreciated, also considering possible other affordable choices for good Shadow Guard boots!

Wow, many thanks for the quick reply! :shadow:

So, I will proceed with this very troop-comfortable choice of boots, then.

This good forum atmosphere tempts me to ask about another thing...suitable gauntlet gloves. Which is something that I just don't seem to come across here in Finland.

Any hints or links to affordable Shadow Guard gloves are appreciated!

Non ornamental Standard Black gloves. They should extend a few past the wrist so that the gauntlet will cover them up.

Hi all,

On behalf of my wife Elina, a question about shins.
I am the one who's doing the armor parts for her Shadow Guard.

According to CRL, shins should reflect the style of Jango Fett shins.
Am I on the right track with these shins. They are loaners but I can get the same ones in black easily.
And btw, they are Jango shins.

Something doesn't look right with these shins... They don't appear to be actual Jango shins and are far too curved and non-symmetrical

It's been awhile but here's latest version of the shins.
I think I have to trim them a little bit from the back edge.
Never mind the black tape ;)

Looking much better. You'll definitely want to trim them down so they aren't biting into the top of the foot as that will get awful sore very quickly.

Yes, I agree on that. Thanks :)
I think I'm going to redo these afterall, just to make ones that taper a bit more downwards.
Like the ones in the pic below. The ones I made look a little bit too bulky in my eye. The difference is small but it still bugs me :?
