Red boots

Post by matt.elder1971 »

I recently found a couple of pair of red boots at some local shoe stores. I was wondering which (if either) of these boots would be acceptable for a RotJ Royal Guard. I realize that the straps on the sides of them would need to be removed, which is not a problem, but I'm more concerned with the lack of a heel (since the CRL says "conservative heels"), and especially the shape of the toe. One of the pair (the one with more straps) has a somewhat pointed toe, but nowhere near as pointed at the one on the CRL picture. The other is more rounded, so I'm fairly certain it wouldn't be acceptable.

First pair:

Second pair:

Any suggestions on them?

Could you make the pictures larger so we can see the detail in the boots? :trsuit:

Sorry about that, it was my first post here and most forums I've been on automatically do thumbnails when embedding images. I didn't realize at the time that this one doesn't.

Other than the straps/rivets that will have to be removed from the first pair as you have noted, I don't see anything wrong with either of these.

The only caveat I would give is it is hard to tell the exact colour of the boots due to the low quality camera photo and poor lighting. The boots should be a crimson red to match the outer cloak for colour.

Once the straps have been removed, they should be fine IMHO. No or low heels are actually correct based on the images I have seen of the Royal Guard suede boots.

Thanks everyone. I only had my phone with me when I was looking at them and the lighting in the store wasn't great for taking pictures. I'll probably get them sometime soon so I can get started on my costume. The color did appear to be very close to the material I was looking at for the outer robe.

Looking for red shoes myself (currently have a nice pair of black, but would eventually like to get the red, obviously. May I ask what the store name was called? Probably don't have any in my neck of the woods, but still doesn't hurt to check :) Thanks!

Would the height be an issue?

As long as they come above the ankle of the person wearing them they should be ok so long as the stitching isn't as visible as it appears to be in the photograph. If the stitching is visible (as it is white) it would have to be dyed red to blend with the material to comply with the CRLs.
