Rubies helmet

Did anyone at C5 see the RG helmet Rubies had? I was told they were still waiting approval for the design, but was wondering if this helmet would be acceptable for 501st approval? If not, what might be the reasons.

I'm afraid I missed it. Had I known they had one, I would have taken a look. I'll have to see if there are any photos somewhere online. Most likely it will be acceptable as far as shape is concerned. Color and Visor will probably be where any modification might be needed.

This is all off the top of my head without having seen anything. But I would think it could be used as a base kit, if it does not meet standards as is straight out of the box.

I did talk to a guy the other day who saw this and felt the helmet. While he said it was to be made of fiberglass, it does not feel like the standard but one with a little flex. A much improvement over the DP Vinyl plastic. He also said the visor section did have some issues. The visor is a large improvement over the small slit section of the DP helmet. The visor is smoked so If you had direct light on you could see the individual.

I held it, wore it, looked it over....I hated it

the "chin" area where the helmet comes to a point seems to be shrunken compared to the dp. From the side it looks like they took a helmet, cut a segment out then extended it. It seems to be dis-proportionately long as it were and the little triangle type shape on the side where the 3 raised segments meet seems oversized as if it wasn't scaled correctly. My friend was standing there with me and he said the back side of the helmet stuck out at least 2-3" beyond my back instead of sitting closer to flush with it. Annnnnnnnnd finally....the brow just above the visor on a guard helmet is set at a 90 degree angle. the brow sinks back toward the visor then a tiny lip comes down off of the brow to meet with the visor. On the rubies helmet this little lip did not exist, so you had this 1/4" or so block of plastic and then the visor at the back of it...it just didn't look right to me.

Supposedly this is still a "beta" helmet though...but unless they do some changes to it, I still see it as typical rubies garbage and there is no way in hell that I would shell out 175 for that thing. I would rather buy another don post and deal with it melting

but that's just my review :P

Grrr....this is gonna bug me for a while now....missing my chance to hold it in person. For that matter, we could have possibly gotten comparison shots with a DP and a SA fibreglass. Oh well. Any form of fibreglass would be a dramatic improvement over the Don Post. As for sculpt, I'll just have to wait and see. Rubies has yet to impress me with anything intended to be replica quality.

The guy did say that they were still waiting on approval. Might be a few weeks though. I asked for what and he said a few things needed to be adjusted and tweaked. Only problem is when it does get finished there is no way to personally inspect it. I'd rather buy from a member here anyway.

I actually tried it on and I liked it. i don't know what everyone is complaining about. It was lined with velvet on the inside and had cushioning. It also seems to have more room than some of the others on the market. I thought it looked good and was not disproportionate or anything. The coloring was good and paint looked nice and clean. I took a picture of it on my head with flash under the lighting there and you could not see my eyes through the visor. Don't see why this wouldn't work.

Do you have pictures from the side on the helmet?
