Changeable visors?

Has anyone experimented with using small magnets as a method of making a visor changeable?

don't know of anyone using magnets but I have heard of velcro being a popular option

I tried using magnets. The mesh visor was fine, but unless you shape the actual visor to make allowances for the magnet size...I shaped my visor to the helmet without magnets so velcro turned out better.

I suppose magnets wouldn't interfere with a fan, but I'm experimenting with a radio so velcro was better there as well.

I was thinking of using really tiny neodymium magnets set onto the helm's inside surface and on the back of the visor to pinch the visor between them, also giving you the airgap around the visor for airflow.

As I plan on using this helm for several costumes eventually I thought it'd be nice to swap them out easily.

I don't have my bucket yet, so this is all theoryccraft for me here.

My officemate used neodymium magnets (from thinkgeek of all places) to keep his clone trooper helmet together (the faceplate is seperate) and they're strong enough that he can hold the hold bucket up just by the faceplate. so a visor shouldn't be too much of an issue. But magnets doesn't work well when there is something between them. So instead of sandwiching the visor you could put a thin metal strip along the inside of the visor and attach the visor to the magnets (epoxy or something) so it would be held in place AND allow for airflow. Just a thought.

I'm still pretty happy with my velcro, but I'm curious about exactly how you plan to attach the magnets. I wanted something that wouldn't be permanent (epoxy) and would be cheap/replaceable.

I hadn't figured it out yet since I don't have the bucket. :)

The manufacturer of the helm is now looking into ways as well. I'm curious what they think of.

I'd think epoxying small magnets to the helmet and then epoxying small magnets to the visor (so they locked together) wouldn't be too hard and it would be too intrusive. It would also leave a gap letting in airflow.

I was thinking along those lines a bit.
