Draft808's Shadow WIP

Post by Draft808 »

Hi Sovereign Protectors! I'm working toward finishing my TFU ESG. My progress to date is as below:

[ ] = in progress
[X] = Finished, critique needed
[F] = Finished with positive feedback

Armor
[X] Helmet : Might need the edges cut to match reference but I see many without the cut so perhaps not?
[ ] Chest Plate : Ruined my plate, sourcing replacement in appropriate size.
[ ] Back Plate : Making template.
[ ] Shoulder Bell : Have TK on hand, either making buck to make version with ridge on only half or trying plumbing elbow method.
[ ] Ab Plate : Making template
[ ] Bracers : Cutting template.
[X] Shin Plates : Might need repaint and finish.
[X] Foot Plate : Might need repaint and finish.

Soft Parts
[ ] Flight Suit : Needs leg slack taken-in.
[F] Gloves : Done
[X] Belt : Might rebuild to correct dyeing issue and upgrade to better buckle.
[F] Belt Buckle : Done
[ ] Kama : Rebuilding to appropriate trapezoidal shape and material.
[F] Boots : Done
[ ] Shin Plate Straps : Rebuilding to accommodate added flight suit bulk.

Accessories
[ ] Saber Pike : Revising 3D model before printing.
[ ] Cloak : Material acquired, assembly needed.

So on the rocks about this because I see the new approved folks on facebook every once and a while and their helm appear to be stock or made to retain the RG style helm bottom edge. Here I'm getting ready to cut the helm and thinking maybe I should pass on it...but it would be more accurate to the source material to trim the edge. hmm, quite a decision.

Helm front & rear proposed cutting lines at white tape. Good to cut or should I adjust?

I was also getting ready to cut these out based on the tape line.

Shoulder Bells front and side proposed cutting lines at black tape edge closest to center ridge. I did a dumb thing and used electrical tape and by the time I got the confidence to make the cut, the line shifted because the tape contracted. :geez:

Found a nice youtube on how to properly trim this...but only well after I destroyed it trying to heat and widen it. Back to square one.

Chest is fine, its more you may need to trim some once its put on your body due to the body style.
The part that would be trimmed back would be the top of the shoulders as the helmet sitting on the top of that cause it to raise up a quite a bit.

the tape lines on the front of the helmet are too narrow. You need to leave more of the shoulder flares in tact.

The shoulder bells also don't look right in shape... are they TK or TB??

If they are TK they aren't in the right shape... they should be TB with the added ridge details as specified in the CRL

The shoulder could be TK as long as the lower part of the ridge fades into the bell.
So you can add the ridge on the upper part of a TB shoulder or make it Fade in with a TK shoulder.

Yeah, bells are TK. In hind sight, I should have found a TB and added the ridge. I'm thinking a griddle and a similar diameter block may allow me to fix this. If not, perhaps a body filler and a lot of contour sanding.

Tape lines adjusted on the helm. Photograph with chest plate attached. Definitely rides up a bit but I can still see forward...and trampling things is an Empire specialty right? No, this will need to be mitigated. Does anyone have photos of how the chest can be trimmed to offset this rise?

New proposed cut lines are the outermost tape line. The inner is the previous line for reference.

New line looks better - and rule of thumb is better to cut more than once :)
