New ROTJ Build

Post by dwdj75 »

Still feeling around for the helmet but I wanted to get some opinions on the cloth !

Went to my local Hobby Lobby and took some pics of what they have ...

To me the velveteen wine did not look as dark as I thought it would. I am leaning toward the spandex burgandy, but I've read that stretch velvet is not very good.

Let me know what your thoughts are !!!

If you are able to get velveteen in the old glory or jockey red color it would be my favorite.
Stepp back from the spandex thing. You will go to Johnny The Flame in seconds near any fire.

So my best bet would be the inner outfit with velveteen wine, and the outer cloak with jockey red ?

I did see that little flammable warning, that does seem like something to not even deal with !

Is there anything a bit more burgundy for the inner?

Not really, and I was not a fan of their burgandy velvet either.

I may check out a couple more places and if no luck, online it is !

If I were choosing I'd go for the brighter red in velveteen. It looks great when you have the helmet in bright Crimson paint. I went for Burgundy colour for inner lining.

Try some upholstery shops (places that re-cover furniture, make custom drapes/curtains, etc.). I walked into one, and part of their display room walls, about 50 linear feet, or so, were filled from floor to ceiling with nothing but binder, after binder, after binder of swatches. I watched in amazement as the woman helping me went around grabbing them and piled up nearly two dozen of them that were all velvets, and those were just the ones in the color ranges I had asked for. :wow:

You will be amazed at how many different shades of "burgundy" there are.
