Depends on what material it is made out of.
If it's synthetic velvet(teen) the best you'll probably be able to do at home is steam clean. Other than that dry cleaning is probably the only option.
If it's a natural fiber, for example cotton, velvet(teen) you should be able to wash it in the laundry and air dry it.
My ROTJ outer robe is synthetic, and the liner/inner robe is natural. I machine wash the inner robe, and just steam clean as needed the outer robe. Haven't had to get it fully dry cleaned yet.
