Hello,

I am getting a Rubies Royal Guard helmet and am going to paint it black for a Shadow Guard. How is the best way to re-paint these style of helmets? E.g.:

Sand down with hand or electric
Do you need a Primer
How many coats of paint?
Varnish/wax?

Thanks

Primer is always good. Wet sanding is a key factor too.

you need to sand it wet and then primer it.
You need two or three layers of paint.
And a finish to make it scratch resistant.

Just a quick tip that I had learned the hard way. It is better to do a few thin coats over a couple of heavy coats. If you have too much wet paint on your bucket and it runs it will cost you even more time in sanding it. Also if you have the option to safely do it, paint it inside, nothing quite like finding a bug stuck to you bucket while it was drying.
