In the approval process, thought I'd post some pictures up for everybody:

This is my helmet from FenixProps with the primer on.

Mistake in my primer that had to be sanded out. I thought this was going to be a huge pain but as you'll see later it ended up not mattering.

This is after two whole cans of Dupli-color Victory Red automotive paint. You can see it is very hazy and the color isn't even. After some research and asking around, it seems this is from humidity in my garage and there isn't really a good fix. After wet-sanding, it didn't look any better so I decided not to use this:

And instead took it to a local auto-body repair shop to have them paint it. The first two shops didn't want to mess with it but the third (no credit cards accepted independent shop) did the job, which ended up like this:

The robes were from FenixProps as well as the gloves. Force Pike was from Imperial Force Pikes on facebook (I hear they are working on an all-metal version right now).

Looks great. I'm about to have mine painted. Looking for the same glossy shine you have on your helmet

First troop in the Red - cleared through my squad leader for the event, still waiting for GML approval. We got lucky and there was a pro photographer going trigger happy from the Dallas Observer (Kathy Tran):

So shiny! I was thinking of taking mine to an auto body shop as well. Did you supply them with the paint?

Wow! Revisiting this thread after so long!

I redid a lot of my helmet after a few troops and this included adding a gap between the visor and the helmet to facilitate air flow. I built up hot glue to provide the spacing and hotglued all the way under and over the corners of the visor to ensure it didn't come off. If I had to do it again I would cut a larger visor so I could add velcro for easy removal.
