It begins - ROTJ royal Guard Build

Post by mara jade »

So have decided to go ROTJ and just got my bucket yesterday.

Feeling a little overwhelmed with this bit as I have never done anything like this or worked with ABS before so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have been reading other posts and am getting all the tools and materials I need to put this together but I am unsure as to what to use to trim this and cut out the eye section or even how to go about that part. Feeling a little scared about that part too as I do not want to ruin it before I even start.

There is an armour party at the end of the month I will be going to to get some help but would love to make a start on it before then.

As to the robes - that's the easy bit for me. I have found a pattern I believe will be perfect for the inner robe and also one I believe will be easy to adapt for the outer robe.

I have also found the velvet for my robes. These are the swatches. Would love a second opinion on these as to the colour :)

Thanks in advance for any help you can give :D

Looks good on the swatches. Something you can always do is take a picture of the product name on the bolt. It can narrow down the questions. As camera lighting can throw off fabric.

I'm getting ready to start my ROTJ build but haven't landed on patterns yet. What patterns have you found that you plan to use?

I'm using this pattern for the inner robe McCall's Costumes McCall's Costume Patterns MC 2060

And for the outer robe I'm using McCalls Sewing Pattern 2810 Ladies / Misses Lined Gown Cape. I think if I use the cape pattern from this and make 2 backs and an extra side panel I should be able to adapt this to a ROTJ cape. Will do a trial run using cheap fabric before I attempt it with the velvet. Will let you know how it goes.

Swatches and helmet looks good.
Dont be afraid to ask for help at the armour party.
I believe there are people willing to help with the helmet!
