Outer Robe mock up -- Help needed please

Post by secureideas »

Hi-

My wife and I are attempting to build an AOTC Imperial Guard. We built a quick mock up of the outer robes since we can't find a pattern she is able to use directly. This is just pinned, but I feel like it is close when its on. Could I get some feedback?

I just tried to upload the pics, but it tells me it fails. I apologize but they are at

or

Thanks!!

Dang! Sorry, they worked for me but I bet thats because I was logged in.

I have uploaded them here:

Thanks for your help. My wife is most worried about the shoulders and the connections up there. We do need to make the length even.

If I am not mistaken, this looks like 2 pieces of fabric sewn together (a front and a back). This will not give you the shape you are looking for.

What I have found works is taking a cloak with sleeves pattern and modifying it. Instead of sewing sleeves, you open them up to become side panels of the cloak. You will have to extend the length of the sleeve to reach the floor, as well as modify the taper of the seams. I would also recommend making the back out of two separate pieces (a left half and a right half). This will add extra volume and give that ominous flaring of the cloak when you move.

I have linked a couple pictures I got of the robes at Star Wars in concert as this should help with the visualization.

That is exactly what we did. :) We were trying to do the whole thing simply and obviously that didn't work.

The big thing I am worried about is that this fabric is quite wide, two pieces next to each other seems like it would be way to big?

Also how do all of the pieces connect?

Thanks!

When I did my mock up, I followed this pattern:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3071/288 ... c69f97.jpg

And it worked out for me. I'll find the pics I took and upload them for you

The first two shots are before I trimmed the material to the right length. And The side "wings" are only attached via safety pins. So they don't look fantastic.

The second two are trimmed to a better length and the wings are sewn on now.

Sorry the last two are of crappy quality, I have an average intelligence phone with a mediocre camera.

But I hope they help! If not, I can get it back out and retake pictures if you think that would be helpful.

Thanks for the pics.... I guess I am more confused as the pics don't seem to have triangle wings?

My wife bought a pattern tonight we are going to try and mock up tomorrow.... talk about nerve wracking! :)

So next try. :)

My wife and I put a back piece that now has "wings" attached. These need to be trimmed a little but we were trying for how they attach. We then took another piece and made it the front. It attaches further back. We then pinned the seams further down.

I have uploaded them to http://www.kevinanddenise.com/robes/ if you guys don't mind checking them out again. (I removed the old ones) We have NOT measured for the length its just for how the pieces go together.

Thanks!!

Almost has a bit of an Episode Three feel to them.
Not that that's necessarily a problem mind you.

So we have made progress... I hope. We have the inner robes done and the outer robes need a bit of adjustment. Can I get some feedback?

Thanks!
