Royal Guard for 2013 - kaa1304 build

Well, best way to start the new year, right? I've always liked the Royal Guard so have been plotting away at the back of my head about doing it in 2013.
So, here's my build thread, a little bare at the moment, and I'm definitely after any advice.
My helm is a fibreglass MLC model, ready for correct colouring, but I have no idea where or how to get this done as I'mm sure car spray from Halfords isn't going to give me the finish I'd like!
You can see here with and without visor. Is it in the right place? My nose doesn't quite stick out the opening. Also the helm has no padding to secure it inside either, this is literally just sitting on my shoulders.
Second up, my forcepike, courtesy of Cabbagefarmer right here on forcepike.net.
I'm planning a ROTJ RG, in keeping with my ROTJ TK and I'm debating colouring the rasp segment, though it's not needed (CRL says copper or silver).
I've got some red pointy boots coming in soon hopefully and from there on in, I hope to be assembling it all. I'd quite like it done for Essen, we shall see.
Anyway, consider this my new years resolution, comments welcome.
Kevin

For painting the helmet get the fabric and match the paint to the fabric. I did a coat of primer on my helmet then I did 5 coats of paint on mine. Between each coat after it has dried wet sand it. I used 1000 grit sandpaper. After your final wet sanding what I used was a tact cloth. It will bring out the shine in the helmet.

You can also add high gloss clear coats, as long as the paint manufacturer is the same. Changing paint brands for colour and clear coat can lead to chemical reactions and crackling.
I used 3 coats of primer, 9 red and then 5 clear coat, nice and shiny and a very old colour

Good morning Guards! Well, I'm hoping to get some feedback and possible an answer to something, regarding my robes. So, without further ado, here's my inner robe, complete with socks. Please ignore the unfinished belt as I know it's unfinished!
It's a good photo regarding the colour and texture, it is a shiny red material, looks like crushed velveteen to me.
Here is both robes. Here you can see the lining of the outer robe which is a matt, burgundy linen:
Finally, I have a question regarding how to wear the robe, if you see this picture:
you can see that when fastened, there is a straight edge effect that does't fit anywhere. I feel like it needs securing up around the neck line but would appreciate knowing how you guys do it before continuing.
Many thanks all,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Forcepike is excellent. Those inners are OK in style but not material.
Outers look good, and the lining. In terms of the fastening, they need to come up a bit and it will sit nicely under the lid and give you the nive V shape drape. Don't know if you an see what I've done to mine at the fastener?
PMing you on UKG boards
Craig

Thanks for the reply mate, I can't quite see how you've fastened it, though?
And cheers for the PM

The outer cloak is coming along nicely.
The inner robes are a definite no go. That appears to be crushed velvet, which is specifically stated as a no go fabric......right shape, wrong material... Sorry for the bad news

Thanks, and that's ok - I was more or less expecting it, and posted these pics for verification of it.

Pike is great.
Like Stripes said, the inner robes are a no go. Just use the same materials for the inner robes as was used for the lining of your outer robe and you should be good to go (from what I can see in the pictures). You've got the pattern looking good, just the materials need changed.
The outer robe I'm concerned about that fastening. Will the helmet cover that up? Correct me if I'm wrong command staff but there shouldn't be any fastening showing.
