Ok I bought a RG helmet recently and repainted it and lacquered it, the finish is really nice now.
Can anyone identify it, the guy couldn't remember who he bought it from.
It is fibreglass and quite a bit bigger than the DP.

Thanks, yes I thought mybe it is FP, but right now I can't see the minor differences in these helmets.

Yep, it's a FP Royal Guard Helmet. Trust me, I've been working and staring at mine forever, trying to get it super smooth.....

Thanks guys, I will go with that then, a FP it is!

Yes Bdgr I know what you mean, I spent quite a while sanding the very slight seam line out and tidying the edges. My brother is a great sprayer and complained at my terrible preparation work :geez:

He made a really good job, the finish is like glass and it shines lovely :trsuit:[great RG smiley]
I think the only way you will get a good spray finish is by using a good spraying compressor. Rattle cans would never get it to look so good imo , the dreaded "orange peel" is the main problem.

wet sanding is your friend

Yes wet and dry sandpaper is very necessary, the design of these helmets can really exaggerate ANY flaws in the preparation and finish.
I didn't even know there was such a thing as 4000 and 5000 grit sandpaper until now :o

Just wait until you get out the 10,000 or 15,000 grit paper....
