Hey Guys,

I was wondering if there is a pattern floating around for the inner and outer robes floating around?
Also if anyone in Australia would know where I could source the right colour and type of fabric, could you let me know?

Cheers
Deimos

This is the pattern that we used in making my second set of robes... be forwarned that it was heavily modified...

As to fabric, I am sure some of our Aussie Guards can chime in on local sources that won't charge you an arm and a leg for shipping.

Hello Deimos

Welcome to the SP board.
What state in Australia are you in?
I am in Vic and all the Spotlight stores here have the red velvet that you will need for your outer robes.
If you need more than 1 bolt make sure the dye lots are the same.
The last time I looked it was about $45 a meter.
What style of Guard are you going to do?

Hey mate,

I've gone through about 25 samples, none really correct but with varying prices per meter :) I'm in NSW and haven't been able to find spotlight stores with the correct velvet, only stretched :(

I do luckily now know someone who can get fabric from syfabrics.com which only ship to the US, and then they ship it out here to me! I've found the colour to be the best matching of everything I've seen so far, and at the best price!

I'll be placing an order with them soon for another ROTJ outer robe set, about 15 yards total, and have a friend going in on the order as well!

Is it ok to use plain velvet or does it have to be silk velvet on the outer robe?

Silk Velvet is NOT approvable for the 501st

Approvable fabrics are:

Velvet (in a shade of crimson red)
Velveteen (in a shade of crimson red)

How do I know that it is the right color? Crimson Red has a different nuance from different manufacturers. Is there any Pantone or RAL number?

So cotton ( plain) velvet is ok?

There is no colour code specific to this fabric as the shade of crimson red you will get will vary slightly based on each dye lot of the manufacturer. Have a look at some of the readily available reference photos on the internet and try to match as closely as you can. Here is a picture of me in my cloak:

Cotton and Velvet are 2 completely different fabrics
