Sintra has a very forgiving learning curve. And it's cheap, to boot, so you can mess about and figure out how to work with it and not have to fret over wastage. Since you'll be using it for making moulds, you'll probably want to reinforce it before casting.

What's your friend using for his heating element?

As I sit here.. still waiting for my chest/back and shoulder bells to arrive.... I've looked at a few different things for the under suit what have you all found looks close?

I'm going to use GABERDINE Fabric for the pants in shirt. I'll use it for the underside of the skirts and kama with black velvet being the out sides of the skirt parts.

I'm working on getting specifics out for the saber pike also.

Try looking at courser twills, as well. Nothing so heavy as worsted, but gabardine may be too fine a weave. Also look at cotton duck (or "trigger") or canvas...

I didn't like the corse material - nothing like having rough fabric against the skin.. Its not worth breaking out in a rash over.

no I could do velvet but it wouldn't look right - that other stuff just didn't come off to me as giving the right texture - the folds and the arms vs sharp bends. Just how i interpret the render drawing.

I had similiar material that had me break out in a full leg rash. not laying that again.

Oof. Yeah, I meant for a skintight layer to help keep you cool whilst trooping, under everything else (and thus not needing to worry about coarse fabric chafing), but not if you break out from wearing it.

I am familiar with the properties of Sintra. Since I've never messed with plastics much, Sintra is an excellent choice to go with when playing around to perfect the pieces. Once I have the final prototype down, I will probably make plaster casts off of the pieces so that I can use those as my master molds.

I'm not sure what Rick is using for the heating element. All I know is that it went out and he has to order another element. But he did mention that he wanted something more than just a mere heating element from an oven.
