Stay away from the panne velour. That won't be approvable.

Figured, was the burgundy velvet good, I have to say the imprint on the bottom is a little unsightly.

The edge on the velvet is standard and ends up being cut off or hidden inside a seam. It should be ok to use though.
Keep in mind that velvet isn't washable and most places in canada that do drycleaning won't take on custom garments like our robes

Problem was they didn't have a lot of velveteen today, only velveteen I could find was the crimson.

Velveteen is a more seasonal item and is usually in high supply in the late summer to early fall for use in winter projects... the other alternative would be something like a gaberdine or other bottom weight fabric in the burgundy/wine colour.

finding the right fabric can take a while... but it's worth it in the end

Good point, plus I've got time to spare so why not fill it?

The other thing you'll want to consider is not all Fabricland's carry the same stuff. We have 4 here in Calgary and each one has different stock. It's a bit of a drive to get between them, but also worth it as you can sometimes find something at one, but not at another.
A quick look on the fabricland website shows 42 locations in southern ontario so not sure how many are close to you but might be some added food for thought.

Well, I'm about two hours away from Toronto and three hours away from Ottawa if that helps, and we actually only have the one in town, so I'd probably have to drive some.
