I think you have to look at it from a Costuming aspect. Your helmet is going to go through alot of more abuse than the set helmets as far environments to be around. As long as it has that look of the Horse hair you should be good to go. I don't expect the average individual to know the difference.

BTW:- why not make a template of how the crest should look after trimming and use that as a guide??

That's what I was thinking of doing Iain, I still have a spare crest to use for the shape...those plastic broom ends are very hard to cut through though! Working on the last part of the crest itself today then will tackle the shaping. Will post pics again when I finish each stage....
As soon as my fiance is home from the hospital I can get some full costume pics too!

Blue gloves matching the cloak and the proper blaster for an ep. 1 senate guard would be 2 things that jump out at me...
