These are the boots I am about to order for my build.

And I also have a pair of boots that I didn't wear in my approval photo. I mainly use this pair outside where it's a little more dirty so my nicer one's don't get ruined.

At the end of the day Stripes is providing the best information he can based on what's being posted. My point using the above story is that, had this other guard never posted up here asking if the boot was ok (after being approved for example), then he/she wouldn't have been given feedback on how acceptable they are (or not), and could just be wearing them.

Each GML really decides what is acceptable or not, and there is history of the guard costumes being considered easy entry level, sometimes with little detail needed. This is wrong and a perception that has been changing over the last few years. As more people actually come to these boards rather than make assumptions, the proper advice is getting out there as well.

I don't think Stripes' advice on these boots is a flat out no, rather it's hard to see in the product photo. It may work out to purchase the boots and get photos of them with the costume for better advice. I purchased a couple of pairs of boots before getting some that went well.
For reference, this is a picture with those particular boots:

I'm sure that will help our Detachment Leader Stripes out :) He may also like seeing them with the robes lifted and side on to better judge (or may not); after all any strap, lace, bell or other could be hidden (although I'm sure it's not just to clarify!!). I only say this because it could become a valuable boot resource for all the members! Particularly true for the men who find it hard to find proper, authentic red suede in their size.

In the meantime feel free to jump over and introduce yourself in the new member thread, I'm sure everyone would like to make you feel welcome (whether actually new or a 501st member working on another costume). I'd hate for you to go more than a few posts without everyone saying hi :)

Black leather?
Yes. They're pretty much german jack boots, but they're higher than the ankle and lower than the calf. No buckles and zipper is on the interior of the leg. Very nice.

The square toe and strap remnants/Holes make these unapprovable
