Rubie's Helmet (picture heavy)
Re: Rubie's Helmet (picture heavy)
I took a piece of metal (1/8th inch thick perhaps) I bought at a big box store. I cut it to the length of the visor opening and added about an inch and a half (so I'd have 3/4 inch on either side). Then I bent it into shape. I used a variety of methods but most of it was putting one end in a vice and just bending it. After numerous test fittings I took the plastic visor I wanted to use and I simply taped it (glue would be just as good) into place. Then I took a rare earth magnet I got online (I'd bought a variety pack off of Amazon I believe) and I glued into place. First I used normal CA glue with an accelerator. On my first troop the glue failed and I ran to the dressing room with my hand holding the visor in place by pushing it against the bridge of my nose...it was less than comfortable. After that failure I found a rubber cement at another big box store that was for high humidity place (such as freezers). 3 years later the magnet has never popped out again and the visor is in place. If I want to pop out the visor to clean it or have a better grip on the helmet while cleaning I do and then I pop the visor back in place.
