Fshfood WIP Thread

Post by fshfood »

I guess it is time to start one of these. :trsuit:

I have my helmet. Rubies Supreme. Is the visor dark enough, or do I need to switch it out? https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_7uG ... kZhbDdLVGM

I am planning on purchasing this for the inner robe/lining: https://www.onlinefabricstore.net/burgu ... abric-.htm

I'm going to stop at Joann's on the way home from work today, and get swatches of velveteen for the outer robe.

I will be looking to the internet for boots and gloves.

Here are my questions so far:

How much gabardine should I buy? I'm 5'8" and 235 lbs.

How much velveteen should I plan to buy? Is it a problem if I can only find 45" wide?

Does cabbagefarmer still make and sell force pikes?

Are there any AOTC guards anywhere near Salt Lake City that my seamstress and I could take a look at your robes when we get to that point? (I'll ask this on Alpine Garrison as well as soon as I get my forum access)

TIA for the help!

Visor seems dark enough. Take a picture outside with natural light. Then i am able to tell you more.
Inner robe/lining material looks good too.
Cabbagefarmer still makes pikes but there can be a waiting time. Ask him.
How much material you should buy depends on the patterns you want to use.

I have the same helmet. The Rubies helmet visor needs to either be replaced or darkened. It is not sufficient as is out of the box.

You'll want to estimate high and plan for leftovers rather than not having enough to make sure you get the fabric all from the same dye lot. Based on what you have provided, I would estimate approx 10m for the inner cloak lining and an additional 8m for the inner robe and sash/belt for a total of 18m.

Again, you'll want to estimate on the high end and go with approx 10m. The width of 45" is pretty much standard here in North America... It is very seldom that we ever see 60" or 72", virtally never see 96" short of a special order... obviously if you can get the 60" it would be even better for fewer seams, but we work with what we have.

Thanks for the help so far guys.

I got a sample of some veveteen. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_7uG ... lHcHljbWlR

How's the color? Is it close enough, or will I need to re-paint the bucket if I go with that?

Here is the link to where it is sold: http://www.joann.com/empire-velveteen-f ... 81958.html

Ok. The previous boots weren't wide enough in the calf for me. Will these work? I know there is the tab at the top, but that is covered by the robes. If they won't work with the tab, if I remove it, should it be ok?
