Finally got it started

Post by Askara »

It all finally came together. I now have the velvet for the outer and inner cloaks, my helmet is ready for painting, and I found someone who can make the suede boots for me (I know black is acceptable but I thought I'd go all in).

I'll be posting updates as I have the chance.

Here's the helmet, made in fiberglass, ready for paint on Wednesday.

Fabric. The lighting makes it look a lot lighter than it is, or maybe it's just the cellphone camera. The colors are actual crimson and burgundy, and to be honest, I love the way the velvet hangs. Will be doing a lot of sewing today.

For the Force Pike, I found this on the subforum and with a proper paint job I think this would be approved, but I'd appreciate feedback: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:518633

I'm really happy to be here.

You want to cut out the visor before painting.

Welcome :trsuit:

As Sascha_Wilsing suggested, trim the visor opening before you start painting.

Once it's painted you will definitely not want to be doing anything like cutting/sanding/filing/trimming as it will likely damage the paint. Make sure it's done as much as you need it to be before painting it. In order to keep the paint from peeling at the edges most painters will wrap the paint around the edges and then taper it off on the inside of the helmet. This keeps the edges of the paint from getting snagged and pulling pieces off.

IMHO, a gloss coat really makes the helmet jump out nicely. In order to do that, make sure it is as close to perfectly smooth as you can get it. Gloss coats are notorious for amplifying imperfections in the prep of the helmet as well as the underlying paint job.

That's my 0.02 cents.

I finished the inner robe this morning, I'll upload picures as soon as I get back home. I also got the suede, the one material I was missing. I'll do the gloves myself, tonight.

And red velcro in case I need to hold something in place.
