Re: RotJ Gloves: Leather or cloth

On the flip side, you're not the only one who's seen the original in the LFL Archives. The particular fabric I keep mentioning matches that cape exactly. *shrug* Maybe if I'd actually been able to get that swatch to you, you'd've thought it was velvet, despite what the manufacturer said. I dunno. I ...

Re: RotJ Gloves: Leather or cloth

Always looked more suede than velour to me... Seeing as how Velour is not accurate nor acceptable for 501st membership... the point is moot. Since you've said that in a couple of threads I just posted in... Ignoring the snark, when I say 'velour' I mean the 21-ounce (pretty darn heavy) cotton velou...

Re: Outer Robe Lining and other questions

Microsuede and suedecloth are very different. This looks and feels almost exactly like suede, only breathes and moves like fabric. It's velvety, without having the problems of most velvets. I'll send you a swatch, along with the theater curtain material I was trying to connect with you at Celebratio...

Re: Need Help: Velvet

The 21-ounce cotton velour that theater curtains are made out of is nothing like the lightweight and panne velours that most people think of for the term. It's heavy and soft and smooth in appearance and less shiny than any synthetic fabric I've looked at. And regardless of whether it's 501st approv...

Re: Need Help: Velvet

I got my velvet from SyFabrics online -- good prices and a good match for the colors and weight of the originals. I've worn three layers of the stuff (cape shell and lining, plus inner robe) in Georgia and Florida in August and I'm still here to tell the tale. My new inner robe will be suedecloth, a...

Re: Outer Robe Lining and other questions

I had enough of the plush triple velvet I used that I made both the cape lining and the inner robe from it. They stick, but not too badly. That was always intended as a temporary inner robe, though. My new one will be made from burgundy suedecloth -- slides against the velvet much better.

Re: Helmet sizes

Thought I'd post this here rather than in Jester's measurement thread -- seemed more appropriate. I'll take a lineup photo of my three helmets at the armor party this weekend, as well as taking measurements. Would you what those pics in here or in that other thread?

Re: Standardized Measuring Guide for Helmets

I'll be taking and posting measurements from my Don Post helmet from the '90s, my new Rubies helmet (which makes up for all the dreck they've put out over the years, IMO), and my CT helmet. Armor party this weekend, so perfect setting for such. :)

Re: Right Inner robe fabric

I used the same plush triple velvet for shell and lining -- red for the outer, dark burgundy for the inner. Gives it the right weight and drape, and I've survived wearing it in both Georgia and Florida in August. *heh*
