Sorry for not posting in a really, really long time...
To answer your question, the material for the gaiters (or spats) is simple pleather. I got some gaiter patterns on the Internet, a couple of reference pics, and took them to a seamstress. She did a great job!

The belt should be lowered and that will help with cod piece stuff. Also the whole abs codpiece is what will hold you from being approved for the canon pictures. I already added one extra "lobster" plate to lower the belt as instructed, and I will be getting rid of the codpiece in favour ...

What about installing a liner like those found in construction helmets? Has anyone done that? I used one for my Navy Trooper helmet and it worked really well, but I haven't tried it on my RG yet.
